The annual Brooklyn BBQ Block Party returned to Williamsburg on June 21, with a unique outdoor performance at Kinfolk Studios. Singer/Songwriter Avi Wisnia connects some of today’s hottest independent musicians from all over NYC for free live music making and collaboration, featuring a wide variety of performances, food, drink, and special guests. The Brooklyn BBQ Block Party is a part of Make Music New York’s Festival for the summer solstice and parallels the organization’s mission of celebrating music in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Kinfolk Studios in Brooklyn is a creative space featuring a rotating selection of projects highlighting the finest in art, music, food and culture. The Kinfolk Lounge will be open during this event, offering special BBQ-themed treats and summery drink specials. More festival information and full schedule at www.makemusicny.org.
The No Brainer 2013 Photo Album
I can’t express the amount of gratitude I feel for each and every person that came and volunteered and performed and bid and danced and drank and hugged and donated at this year’s No Brainer Benefit Concert. You helped us raise more than $14,000!!! in one afternoon to fight brain tumors and fund future research. My brother is no longer here to witness all the love – but he always valued good friends and good music, and it meant so much to be able to bring music and friends together to honor his memory. We’ve posted lots of photos from the event, including this one here, featuring 7-year-old brain tumor survivor & mohawked-violinist Owen River Dodd (with our MC Marc Kaye). Click below to view.

My Brother
There was nothing my brother valued quite as much as good friends & good music. They helped him live life to the fullest despite having a brain tumor. Just a few short months ago, my brother passed away. This will be the first No Brainer benefit concert where my brother will not be making music on that stage. As I am finding with so many things every day, we have to keep finding ways to mark his absence and also move forward, at the same time. It is with this sentiment that my family is going forward with another event: a means of gathering together, of supporting community, of raising awareness, of celebrating life. We invite you to join us as we honor the huge spirit of Dov Benjamin Wisnia, with good friends and good music.
